1932 Siam's monarchy became constitutional. The kingdom was renamed Thailand - "The Land of The Free". 1096 the Lanna Thai kingdom (A Million Rice Fields) was founded by Mengrai the tribal leader. 14th century king Ramathibodi founded Ayutthaya as the kingdom's capital. 1782 - King Rama I set up capital at Krung Thep, now known as Bangkok. 2004 - The Laus stepped foot in Bangkok. That's the beginning of a new chapter...
